Barranco: Lima’s Artsy District
Full of colourful street art and beachfront cafes, Lima’s second smallest district is aesthetically pleasing. With a number of hip boutique hotels, many travelers choose to base themselves in Barranco. However, this walkable neighbourhood is an easy day trip destination for those staying elsewhere in the city.

Things to do in Lima’s Barranco district
Cross the Bridge of Sighs
This wooden pedestrianised bridge is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Barranco.
Legend has it that the bridge was named after a rich young woman who fell in love with a street sweeper. Forbidden by her father to be with the love of her life, she spent her days sighing from her window hoping to see him again. Today it is believed that if you can hold your breath while walking the length of the entire bridge (44m long), your wish will come true. Also, if you keep walking past the bridge, you will end up at Barranco Beach.
Check out the MAC museum
Lima’s Museum of Contemporary Art showcases work across numerous media, including sculptures, paintings and installations. While small, the museum regularly features exhibitions that showcase the talent and creativity of Peruvian artists.
Check out the Jade Rivera museum
Located in a gorgeous house, this gallery showcases local artist, Jade Rivera’s journey in murals and graffiti. You can tell the artist really paints from the heart and it is interesting to see how his art has evolved.
